Writing is a 24/7 thing sometimes. My mind just never shuts down.
When I’m immersed in a new story, I kind of forget to sleep. That’s not quite right. I go to bed, close my eyes and then… … Then new scenes and dialogue come to me. I do my best thinking at night when I really should sleep. Sometimes I do get up and open the computer to write down what I have devised, but most times I repeat it very often and hope I’ll remember it in the morning. It actually works, by the way.
Anyway. Sleep is in short supply when I’m working on a story. And once I do move to the land of dreams, they tend to feature my protagonist and the general pretence of the story. There is no escape for me.
But it’s all for a good cause. And I can always catch up when the book is finished. Unless… I go straight into the next one.
Last year I spoke to a number of authors at the Self Publishing Show in London, (back when we were allowed to travel,) about the sleep issue. It seems I am not alone. Creativity takes its tole on us authors.
My stay-awake project now is the first book in the Devil’s series. It’s new and kind of controversial. I’m not sure when it will be finished, but I’m aiming for the summer.
In the meantime, two more weeks until Drained is published. It’s a dark- paranormal-horror book and now available as pre-order. Then the second one in that series in April. I also have at least one more book planned for this year in the Prophecy series.
Another project that needs my attention is the Page Turner awards. This is a way to get the film industry to read my the stories. Not the whole film industry naturally, but it is a start. I’d love to see one of my stories on the big screen.
