I know. I know. I’m a day late again.
But this time I have a good excuse.
I’ve been to the London Book Fair.
|
|
|
|
It was fantastic. I’m still processing all the things I heard and saw there.
Just in case you don’t know what the London Book Fair is; it’s the biggest book fair in the world. Three full days of everything that you can possibly want with regard to books, reading, publishing and thousands of book lovers to boot.
The Olympia venue in London is massive. Seven halls, most of them with two levels. All full of books, publishers and more. In the west hall a whole floor is reserved for the authors. Every day there’s a full program of forums, seminars and inspirational interviews. For authors, editors, publishers; this is the place to be.
I came back home yesterday evening late after a thoroughly exhausting but very inspirational trip. I spoke to so many people in the industry that my head is still reeling. On Tuesday I even met with an agent from United Agents of London, (only one of the biggest Agencies for TV and Film) to exchange ideas about introducing the Primal Series to the film industry. On Wednesday I met an editor from Sweden who introduced me to publishers and agents in Scandinavia. And those are just a few of the fantastic opportunities that I am now following up on. Throw AudioBooks into the melange and you will understand why I’m so tired.

This is the view from the upper gallery of one of the halls. There were representatives of every major book publisher, all the promoters. Film and TV industries. Everyone who is anyone in the literary world was there.
There were seminars all day long in the Author HQ. everything from starting on the road to publishing to how to market your work and extend the reach of your communities.
As a result I have an overload of information. Tons of ideas and many new friends and contacts. This year has the potential to be a great year for me. Just as long as I can catch up on the sleep that I missed.

One of the most interesting moments was when a forum took place with four well known authors who spoke very openly about the start of their career, the bumps they encountered underway and what they did to overcome them.
The authors were all very approachable and extremely helpful in answering any questions that I had.
Definitely a week well spent.
